The Noel and Tammy Cunningham Humanitarian Award is so-named because of their dedication to serving the community. The award recognizes an individual that has demonstrated the spirit of humanity through volunteer work, advocacy, leadership, and philanthropy nationally and/or around the world. The 2016 award goes to Walter and Christie Isenberg for their tireless contributions.
Supporting charitable organizations has always been important to them and they have active in the community since moving to Denver. While not always financial, they early made contributions through volunteerism, helping raise money through charity auctions, giving gift certificates from their hotels and restaurants. As they’ve achieved success they love that they are able to do more. “It’s a big part of our life and it’s very, very important to us.”
The co-founder of Sage Hospitality, Walter Isenberg serves as the company’s President and Chief Executive Officer. Denver-based Sage Hospitality specializes in the operations, development and capital transactions of hospitality real estate. Sage Hospitality owns and operates hotels and restaurants in 26 states. Isenberg directs all company operations, including property management, real estate transactions and brand development. In 2006, Sage formed the Sage Restaurant Group, which operates unique high-volume restaurants inside its urban hotels.
Christie Isenberg is President of Amp the Cause (formerly Concerts For Kids) which was founded in 2004 by Christie and Walter Isenberg and helps support more than 40 child-focused organizations annually through its fundraising events and community service projects. Annual events include Community Day, Denver Day of Rock, A Million for What Matters, Celebrity Waiter, Holidays For Kids and Sundays Sounds. Since its inception, Amp the Cause has distributed over $5 million to its named partners in both monetary and in-kind donations.Currently, Christie sits on the National Jewish Health board and recently joined the Tennyson Center board. Christie and Walter live in Denver and have two daughters, Nicole and Tirunesh.
