IF IT CAN HAPPEN TO EQUIFAX, IT CAN HAPPEN TO YOU

Restaurants can learn critical lessons from Equifax’s massive data breach. When basic security precautions are not being taken with internet usage, losses are the real threat. Here is what I would want restaurateurs to know. There are two news headlines when a data breach occurs. One says, “Company fails to follow basic security principles. Customer’s information compromised.” The other, “Despite best practices, hackers get in!” Read more on how to protect your business here.

BREATHE EASY ON THE 16TH STREET MALL MOVES FORWARD

Last year, the Mile High Chapter of the Colorado Restaurant Association voted to support the Breathe Easy on the 16th Street Mall campaign. Denver City Council President Albus Brooks is leading the charge to prohibit smoking (and vaping) on the 16th Street Mall because “protecting public health by prohibiting smoking along the mall would not only improve the quality of life for its inhabitants but also its visitors.” This ordinance will begin the council process early October 2017 and could be finalized by the end of the month. If this ordinance passes those who smoke on the Mall will receive a civil fine of up to $100 per offence. Find out more information here.

FINANCIAL IMPACT SURVEY FROM THE NATIONAL RESTAURANT ASSOCIATION

Modeling the economic impact of legislative and regulatory actions on the restaurant industry is critical to our success on our legislative priorities. Working with the Boston Consulting Group, we have built an updated economic model that can estimate the impact of specific legislative or regulatory actions in areas such as minimum wage, taxes, healthcare, etc. We need your help in completing our financial impact survey, to make the model as robust as possible in order to better communicate our industry story to elected officials. This survey will take 10 minutes or less to complete.  Please take this short financial impact survey.
