TEAM COLORADO SHINES AT NATIONAL PROSTART INVITATIONAL

Grandview High School places 5th at National ProStart Invitational

Our Colorado ProStart teams were definitely top performers at the National ProStart Invitational last week. After months of practice and winning their respective state competitions, Grandview High School in Aurora placed 5th in the management competition where they received $2,500 scholarship awards and additional scholarship opportunities from more than 17 colleges.  And Youth Entity from Roaring Fork competed in the culinary competition where they placed 13th in the nation.  Check out the pics on our Facebook page! Congratulations to both teams!

2018 COLORADO LEGISLATURE ALMOST OVER!

Nick tells me that there are 8 days left in this year’s Colorado Legislative Session. (Not that he’s counting!) We are closely watching a few bills to make sure they don’t have negative impacts on Colorado restaurants. Specifically, there are a two bills dealing with the sale of 3.2 Beer, a Marijuana Consumption bill, and most concerning a Local Minimum Wage bill. We are confident that our efforts to protect restaurants in the final days of this session will be successful. To get more details on the bills we are following, check out our latest Legislative Update.

COLORADO WINNERS OF THE RESTAURANT NEIGHBOR AWARDS

Two Colorado companies were recognized as the state winners of the 2018 NRAEF Restaurant Neighbor Award. The Restaurant Neighbor Award celebrates the outstanding charitable service performed by restaurant operators throughout the U.S. This award recognizes the impact restaurants and entrepreneurs have made on their local communities. Nationwide, restaurants’ charitable contributions are estimated to be up to $3 billion annually, and more than nine out of 10 restaurants are actively involved in community service.

So many of our members have a profound impact on the local communities that they serve, and we are honored to acknowledge the contributions of these award winners.

COLORADO CASES ADDED TO THE E. COLI INVESTIGATION

U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have announced that more people have become ill in the E. coli outbreak linked to romaine lettuce. The grower, supplier, distributor or brand responsible for this outbreak has still not been identified. Currently, 46 patients have been hospitalized of the 98 cases in 22 states yet, thankfully, no deaths have been reported. Advice to restaurants and retailers from the CDC:

Restaurants should ask their suppliers about the source of their romaine lettuce; and DO NOT serve or sell any romaine lettuce from the Yuma, Arizona growing region. This includes whole heads and hearts of romaine, chopped romaine, and salads and salad mixes containing romaine lettuce. Restaurants should also wash and sanitize display cases and refrigerators where potentially contaminated products were stored. Get more in-depth information here.
